Who is priscilla ono
Her fearlessness and confidence are so refreshing and the best advice she could offer. The beauty industry has changed so much, even in the last year, and Fenty Beauty is really leading the charge. What are your hopes for the beauty industry in the future? Where would you like to see change? And how are you influencing that at Fenty Beauty? I think Fenty Beauty has started a great new chapter when it comes to representation in beauty. I hope the industry just continues to build on this momentum.
I hope that the industry also continues to innovate in the future—I would love to see products that allow you to do fewer steps because time is precious! What do you wish your younger self knew when you were first starting out in the beauty industry? What characteristics make you successful in this industry? On top of your Fenty Beauty role, you love to teach and have even developed your own makeup courses. Why did you take this educational path? How did you discover your passion for teaching?
What advice do you have for someone who wants to pursue teaching too? I got into teaching because I really wanted to inspire others, particularly Latina women, with what I had learned over the years. Makeup is part instinct and part practice. I had experience from working at Sephora for three years, which helped shape my artistry, as well as helped me in becoming an educator. I also assisted professional artists which really helped me understand how to work on major sets.
To set yourself apart in this industry, you need to be more than just good at makeup. So, yes, I teach skill and technique, but more importantly, I teach was set etiquette really is. You also created a plus-size clothing line in collaboration with Eloquii.
Why did you decide to move into the fashion space and develop this line? What did you learn through the process? Because of that, I always wished I could just create my own! Eloquii, though, is one of the few brands that actually is fashionable for plus-size and it was a really natural partnership because I was already a fan and existing client.

What are your top three tips for growing a following and building a brand on social media? In a pay-to-play world, how do you grow your business organically on social media?
Make sure your posts are remarkable. Quality over quantity. People want to be inspired by something new and fresh. Social media always shows the highlight reel, but we know that this is not a depiction of reality. She really loved it.
About a month later I got the confirmation that I was chosen to be the global artist. They called me to go on set for one of her campaigns. It was my second time ever doing a major campaign.
It was for Mattemoiselle and Moroccan Spice. We were in Palm Springs, it was degrees, people were dropping like flies; they were having heat stroke and there were paramedics everywhere. A post shared by badgalriri badgalriri on Jun 29, at pm PDT. After that, just started requesting me to do her makeup for even things outside of Fenty Beauty: on her clothing line, on [her lingerie line] Savage and her personal events, which is great because I really get to know her and her taste so I can represent the brand the best way I can, because I see what she likes.
That was something that she really loved when I first did her makeup at the try-outs, I drew her lips more round. When Rihanna wears bright colours, she actually takes her fingers and smudges around the lip after we apply the lip colour.
It creates this faded effect around the lip line that looks really good without being super perfect. I use the actual applicator to apply it; Stunna in Uncensored has a really unique brush that Rihanna designed. When you flip it upside down, you can line your lips with it. Priscilla Ono: Extremely important. I would often have to mix colours and pigments. It was frustrating to find a formula that was perfect for a project but was limited on who I could use it on, because of the limited colour range.
What does your role as Global MUA encompass? What does your day-to-day look like? No day is ever the same and I get to travel the world representing Fenty Beauty - educating cast members at our retailer partners, contributing to product development, shooting videos for social media, attending press events.
Priscilla Ono: Teaching. When I first started as an intern 13 years ago, I did a lot of music videos. I would mainly do dancers. I noticed so many lead make-up artists lacked some of the most simplistic qualities like proper hygiene for their kits and just making someone feel pretty. I would have a line of dancers just waiting for me because they wanted to look good and feel comfortable while getting their make-up done.
What are the differences? Priscilla Ono: Yes, definitely. Preparing for the look has to start with the understanding of what the lighting will be.
When it comes to skin, red carpet has to be more medium coverage with strategic powder placement. Editorial is as minimal as possible when it comes to foundation and almost no powder products.
Runway is similar to editorial with more sheen. How do you think the industry has evolved since you first started out? I think HD is making makeup artists strive for perfection because you can see in so much more detail. How do you think our understanding of beauty has shifted with the evolution of technology? People can sometimes get stuck in the same type of beauty. I always push myself to come up with new perspectives of beauty. What advice would you give to young artists hoping to get into the industry?
Priscilla Ono: Practice and patience. It took me 15 years to get to where I am. What is the future of beauty? Priscilla Ono: I can only hope for more innovative products in the future - I would love to see products that allow you to do less steps because time is precious. Who would you like to shine a spotlight on next? The Golden Laurels of self-ordained prestige are a cornerstone attribute of the Chicano culture, self orienting and powerfully imposing, gracefully, with zero apologies.
